Help, how do you move these motor mounts!!!!!!
Permalink Closed

I would like to think i'm a decent mechanic but these motor mounts have me ready to set fire to garage, please what is the trick. I'm swapping 4.3 to 5.0.
I can only get to the front bolts.

HAHAHAAHA

It is a pain in the @ZZ to get the bottom bolt but not impossable. The other top bolt should be just as easy as the front one.

The easiest way to do it is get a real cheap long wrench and a small plumblers Bernzomatic  hand torch heat it up real good and bend the head slighly till you get the correct angle on it.

Or you can do what I did the first time I did this swap and was going nuts.

Tie a peice of rope or string to the closed end of the wrench this way when you drop it 2000 times every 1/8th of a turn you can just pull it right out of the hole.

I have also seen people take a grinder and open up the two "wrench" holes slightly so it was easy to get at the nuts.

If you are around here I can lend you my bent wrench I made.

thanks, by speaking of motor mounts are you talking about these frame mounted ones i'm having trouble with or the other piece that bolts to motor 'rubber and metal'. also i've been told that the front bolt holes have to hang over the k member and only use two bolts for each bracket, is that true. Luke

on the v-8 mounts the rubber/metal bolts to the frame

you bolt the top 2 and only one on the bottom

3 bolts on each mount total.

I will post a pic when I get home to show you where they go

The gold mounts are "solid" mounts the set from advance or autozone will look different but use the same set of holes.

These are what your frame mounts will look like.
There are little tabs on the ends.
Do yourself a favor and cut them off before you install the engine.
It will save you some headache when you are droping it in, especialy if you are dropping in the engine and trans together in one shot.

You will also need these to bolt to your V-8
As you can see there are different types for Chevy V-8's

On the left is the one you need to install a small block, on the right is to install a big block.
You can use the small block set on big blocks. Most people don't even know there are different types.
