When your car was new...
Permalink Closed

Simple question:
What were you doing when your car was new?

My current family...

1972:
I was a year away from making my earthly debut.

1976:
I was 3 years old.  I welcomed my parents' first Monte Carlo to the family, a 1976 model that I "claimed" as "mine" in later years.  I was also a year away from my first open heart surgery.

1979:
I welcomed my baby sister to the world.

1981:
I finished first grade in the spring; started second grade in the fall.

1987:
I was in middle school ... and had to say goodbye to my best friend who died of an asthma attack.

Former members...

1988:
I finished middle school and entered the world of High School.  I first started thinking about having one of every single YEAR of the Monte Carlo.  I later re-thought that ... with the goal of one of each generation, which I completed March 2002.

1997:
I started my first full-time job, after graduating from college a year earlier.  I also put my '79 MC Landau (first car) away for the winter and bought a new "daily driver".

2000:
I was one Monte Carlo away from completing the family, having bought the '81 MC SC from my parents December 1999 and the '76 MC Landau a year before that; I've never bought a Monte Carlo brand new.  I was still working at the same company, but had switched jobs in late 1999, about the same time I bought the 2000 vehicle.  Health wise, I was (unbeknownst to me at the time) 3 years away from my 3rd open heart surgery.

I was 12. Riding my bike and playing baseball. I remember opening up packs of Topps baseball cards racing to see between my friend and I on his porch who would be the first to score a Don Mattingly, lol. I still remember that wood grain template of those cars.

Ok, here goes

Current:

1986 SS Trying to graduate from High School in the first half of the year, then trying to keep myself in college the second half and then working and partying the rest of the time, LOL!

1994 GMC truck, Matt was 3, so that means I was working 2 jobs and trying to support a family.

2001 SS, Matt was 10, so I was back to working 1 job, still supporting the family and attending lots of car shows!

Prevoius, well, too many cars to list, But I was anywhere between 4 and 40, so that means, I was playing with cars in one way or another. LOL!

Jeeeeeez...when MY car was *NEW*..?  Lemme see, I'm pushing 61, so ya'll can do the math LOL
My FIRST car was a 1965 Impala straight 6 and a powerglide, I musta been 15 when that was made, and in High School..?
My second car was a 1968 Chevelle SS396, wife picked that monster up, and commenced to squeal tires, she kicked it like it was a 6 banger.
Third car...I dont remember, but there WAS a 1969 Z-28 Camaro somewhere in the mix.
I have owned MANY Vegas, ALL with SBC engines, except for one. That one was a 1974 Cosworth Vega.

1970, Montes were BRAND new...and I was busy getting OUT of Viet Nam, INTACT

Remembering that far back gives me a headache..LOL

Haha, okay let's see.

1975 Laguna - I was -11 years old...

1977 Chevelle - I was -9 years old...

1990 Lumina - I was 4, and remember my grandfather and my dad picking up these cars at the dealership at the same time. I thought it was so cool that they had consecutive license plates...which still hang on the walls in my garage today.

1996 Lumina - I was 10, and just received the 77 Chevelle from my dad as a project car. It barely ran, was really rusty and I had no money. I began cutting every lawn in the neighborhood that summer to make money to put into that car.

1997 Lumina - Let's see, I was still trying to make money to fix the Chevelle up. At the time, 6th grade I think? Also, when I fell in love with the 98 Z34 on the showroom floor when my parents were looking for a new car. It was black with a black leather interior and a 3800. My dad wouldn't buy it but it was then I decided some day I'd buy one.

1999 Z34 - 8th grade, Chevelle was running good at this point, but needed body work bad.

Past cars...

Only one that is a past is my 2001 Malibu LS..which is actually my dad's car now. In 2001, think I was a Sophomore in HS and this was the year I got my Chevelle painted!

I have never bought one of these new...and nothing ever seems to leave my ownership. Like my sig says, it's a sickness... isn't it?

LOL!  Yes, yes it is.  And, mine keeps getting worse instead of better, since now I want an '89 or '90 CC 9C1 and a '75 Caprice Classic convertible....lol.

Dave ... wish I'd seen that Buick in person ... looks AWESOME.
