ok guys i got my bonus check coming and i want to order parts for my car. i want to change the
headers
exhaust
cam& lifters and add 1.6 rockers

this is my engine

http://www.gmhorsepower.com/Fast-Burn-385-Turn-Key.php

first off what do you think of these headers?

http://www.jegs.com/i/Hedman/500/68608/10002/-1

second this is the cam spec for what i have in there now. and the heads i have.

Camshaft lift (in):.474 intake / .510 exhaust
Camshaft duration (@.050 in):208'c1 intake / 221'c1 exhaust
Cylinder heads (P/N 12464298):Fast Burn aluminum; 62cc chambers
i'm looking for more power but also that lumpier sound.

was looking at this.GM # 12480002 Hot cam kit
is supposed to push my motor to 425hp from 385hp
cam specs
Duration @ .050 Lift (deg): I: 218, E: 228
Maximum Lift (in) w/1.5 rocker: I: .492, E: .492
Lobe Centerlline (deg): 112

my springs will only allow up to 525 lift so i'dd have to change springs when i go with the 1.6 rockers.

i also have a RPM Airgap to be added on.

help me figure out what the hell to order.
i'll also be running 3" exhaust dumping out behind the rear tires.

While I am a fan of shorty headers for there ease of installation and maintenance I would invest in a set of long tube 1 5/8 headers and a 2.5 inch exhaust.

With a 3" exhaust and a 350 you may be to large and reduce the velocity of the exhaust gasses passing through the exhaust system. In doing so they diminish the emptying out or "scavenging" effect in the cylinder.

Now in english...........If you can't get the exhaust gas out fast enough, then you can reduce the amount of incomming gas because of the reduced space(left over exhaust) in the cylinder and in turn loose power.

Check out this exhaust size calculator.

It is just a guide but is pretty good since it figures everything out for you.

According to the calculator a 385HP engine 2.25 inch exhaust is good

I would say on exhaust,
Go with a set of long 1 5/8 long tube headers, 3" collector
and add a full 2 1/2 out, or dump it like you have now.

as for the other upgrades it sounds like you have it covered.

I agree, what you got is better than mine. But Maybe try the 1.6 rockers without swaping the cam and see how it is first.

As for the headers. I like my shortys, LOL!

Thanks everyone,

with this Hot Cam it should put my car around the 425-430hp range

GM actually had a ZZ430 which i just found out was my motor with the hot cam in it.

so should i still go with 2.5" or the 3"
i forgot i have a 3" xpipe system for the monte sitting in the other shed from a 85 SS

I agree.....

so i should just change the headers?  and leave my 2 1/2" exhaust on there for now? and i can change the exhaust and crossmember later?

I agree with staying with the 2 1/2" exhaust. I also think that hot cam would be excellent for your motor. I have the Hooker long tubes and I like them, except when I have to navigate speed bumps. Then it is a slow approach and on an angle. The collectors do hang a bit low.

I have a set of LS Patriot heads on my father in laws Z06

Some people bash them but we have had nothing but good luck with them.

Never used there headers but they look nice and have the correct head port for your engine.

312 for a set of coated headers sounds like a decent price if there coatings are good.

Definetly go with the full 2.5 inch exhaust that exits after the rear axle.

As for an X-pipe thats up to you

What mufflers are you going to use???
