Jim's kitchen project
Permalink Closed

well a few of you know if been helping my friend redo his kitchen.
there dishwasher was leaking over a period of time and they had no idea it was. then one day the valve burst on the bottom of the dishwasher and flooded the kitchen.
well his home owners covered it and the work begain.
he and another guy ripped out the cabinets and 2 subfloors to get to the original floor. they also ripped out the fireplace and the corner of the kitchen to make it bigger.
this is when i started working and finding all sorts of stuff hidden.
found wires just wire nutted in the walls. dryer vent almost closed off because the other guy used the plain white plastic duct. then the one cabinet was only half as deep as it should be. because he ran plumbing thru it.
so i fixed all of that and added tons of new lighting. moved the plumbing for the sink over 2 feet to center it with the window.
i added under cabinet lighting.
2 lights over the island we added.
the 4 recessed lights were added
1 light added to the beam over the kitchen table.
took the chimney pipe out of the wall and i bent flashing to match the shape of his siding and we pop riveted it in place and caulked all the seams. frames the hole in the wall and insulated the wall and re drywalled 2 walls in his kitchen.
his old floor was out of level by over 1 3/4" to 1/4" at the other side of the room.
anyway her are my pics.
we did all of the grunt work in 4 full 12 hours days and he did other trim works during the weeks i wasn't there.

anyway here are pics.

and here is is with the handles on and now to wait for counter tops until i can got back and do the appliance garage and finish mounting the under cabinet control system

well i finished that kitchen list Saturday.
it turned out awesome.

i had to install the faucet twice since it was backwards the first time.... crappy instructions.
but i got the drain/ diswasher filter and the rest of the plumbing done.
finished wiring the under cabinet lights
we installed the appliance garage
and i helped grout tile...that sucked..lol

thanks guys.
the only thing we didn't do was lay the floor or the counter tops. everything else was done my be and him and his wife did painting
he learned a ton during this project. i was teaching as we went, but i still did all the plumbing and electric since he was nervous about doing them since he never had before. or for the most part everything we did he hadn't done up to this point.

it turned out awesome and they're going to enter it into a contest.
