2002 Monte Carlo SS- Wont start on first attempt but fires right up 2nd time
Permalink Closed

I have a 2002 Monte SS with a 3.8 in it. Recently it has been acting funny when i first try and start it. It turns over but just doesnt have enough umph to start up. Sometimes after trying to start it the first time i hear a sort of winding up noise and it starts to smoke. After about 10 seconds i try and start it again and it fires up like its brand new. I have no idea what is going on. The only thing i have tried is changing the pcv valve (o rings etc.) PLEASE HELP! Im lost on this one. Thank you!

Does it crank normally? It almost sounds like a fuel pressue issue, maybe the fuel pressure regulator is leaking and the pressure is bleeding down

Yes it cranks normally. And i was thinking fuel injector problems or something along those lines too. Sometimes it will fire up on the first try, almost die out, and then revs up really high (3000 rpm or so). After about a second of that it goes back down to normal. Its driving me nuts i cant figure it out! Theres no check engine light or anything like that.
