So I have decided that I'm going to be going the LSX with a 4speed route my monte. The 355 has been great but I want both power an milage out of the monte an the carb just can't cI also want to drive on the highway at 65(ish)an not have the engine spinning at 3100rpm's up higher. The tranny was redone 2 years ago an has been shifting good an firm.I plan on selling the engine an tranny to help fund the swap.

I was going to go EFI with the 355 but then a rattle from the engine compartment changed my mind.found out i bent the push rods for cylinder #6.changed the push rods an then got tierd of the cold start with the carb(the choke has givin me problems for a while)so good by old school hello new school.

Afew shots of the monte

Good luck with the swap. Thats the plan for My son's car too. He's already started to list the parts needed. Make sure you post the project pics

Welcome to the club, LOL! Try doing side jobs in the rain. Can't wait to put Matt's Monte into storage, then I can use 1/2 the garage again.

Now I just have to sell the engine an tranny to get a 5.3 an a 4 speed.Been looking at what you can do with that 5.3 they can get pretty alot out of them.

I'd LOVE To see the 5.3 in something. for some reason it never goes in a car.. always the 6.0. zen did you ever consider a 4L60 insted of the 4 speed?

scott and dave. the ls1 swap is easy.. just get a f body motor.. they have diffent oil pans from the vettes. i just highly suggest notching the cross member. there is a company that sells the acessories and everything you need.. makes things real easy. its a easy swap just VERY time consuming!

I'm doing a 4l60e or 4l80e going to keep it auto. Those 5.3's are great to build they can make the same if not more power than the ls1 for alot less money.going to do the swap this year an next year i'm going to boost the engine. Most likely do a turbo set up.

zen, if you are going to do a turbo swap dont mess with the 4l60. just go right to the 4l80. its a lot stronger. just not sure if it'll bolt up the bellhousing. i know someone that will do a custom turbo setup. i also can get a turbo for you at a good price (my brother has an online store). i know someone that will make you custom headers and exhaust. he's on long island and does amazing work. as far as the turbo goes.. i highly sugest a 6776. billet ball barring. its what my brother uses on his vw and what i'm going to use on my gn motor. you might want to go bigger though because of the displacement you got. what are the goals for the car?

I might have a turbo coming my way from a friend already. As far as the tranny goes it's going to depend on what i can get my hands on.Either way the tranny will be getting a monster rebuild with a 2500 stall converter. This year i'm only looking to get about 350 to the wheels with a cam, ls6 intake, headers, and a tune. With the turbo i'm going for 500+ to the wheels.I want to keep it as streetable as posible for cruising an travel to gm nationals an a few other events maybe even the hot rod power tour.I'd really like to do the power tour with my son.

ok 2 things.. 350 to the wheels is easy. tom romanski's ls1 ls put down 366 smoking the clutch (litteraly). it was with just a cam headers and a tune. you can easy do that. the car will be dead streetable. with a turbo its real easy to go 500+ and be reliable. the 2500 stall is way way way too low. you need at least a 3500 stall. depending on what turbo. with that kind of displacement i would go with a 6776 the min. do that with a big hot side. or.. 72mm turbo with a .63 hot side. the car will be a beast.

The converter is still subject to change, it's one that comes with the monster rebuild i was looking at.Had a friend that has had a lot of good luck with it.Every thing I read on these engines there making tons of power with little being done to them an still get great gas milage even with boost.I think the turbo my friend might sell me is right around that size,it's too small for what hes got.Only has about 300 miles on it not enough for what he's doning but perfect for what i want.

Well life as always likes to throw a wrench in the works.cry

Due to cash flow issues my plans for the monte have had to change. No more LSX swapdisbelief i'll be fixing the broken valve springs an reasembling the old 350 for a few more years of faithful service.

I will still be doing a a tranny swap.A friend has a 700r4 out of a 85-86 vette he's going to sell me.So I'll at least have a 4speed this year.

Little update on my swap.Got some of the tear down done on the lq4.Block looks to be in great shape just a little dirty.Got to get it to a machine shop for a good cleaning an some new cam bearings.Alomost lucked out an had a ls2 cam but it wont work with my cam sensordisbelief.

I had helped a friend rebuild his ls2 last week an he let me keep his old cam an valve springs.Kinda sux I can't use it in the lq4.

Now if I can get some to buy my 350 i'd be golden to swap this in.unforutnetly I've had nothing but dead beat buyers for it.bleh
