John what motor does it have. If its the 3.4 dohc be aware of the timing chain. I've heard it's a pita to replace and it usually goes right about that mileage. But that 3.4 has some nice power. If its got the 3100 it's prone to the head/intake fail. I had a 97 with the 3100. Was a great car but was lost to an oil pump fail.
Tim, Thanks for the info. I'll find out what engine is in the car and go from there. If the timing chain fails in the 3.4 does it take out the valve train like the belt in some of the toyota engines do? Sounds like I should steer clear of the 3100.
John if it is a 3.4x motor run away from it. the 3100 is a fine motor and GM used it for a long time. my Aunt still has her 1995 Monte she bought new. It runs great. she still loves the car. the head/intake issues was the same across theboards for GM's 6cyl's
I think that will make a nice car for Trina

LMAO!! Ok One for the 3.4... one for the 3100! The car has the 3.4 in it, he says the only problems it has is a power steering pump going bad and a small exhaust leak. I'm thinking I may be able to pick the car up for $1500, at that price it may be worth it. All depends on the visual though, once the weather clears later this week I'll have him bring it over and get it on the lift.
John, Seriously! If it has the 3.4L DOHC motor, RUN!!!!! Unless it's a Brickyard Pace car in near mint shape, then maybe. LOL!
Those motors are a disaster if the timing belt goes. And since it's like all other GM motors of the 90's, the intake leaks and the heads MUST come off to replace the intake gasket. I don't think the power steering pump is an easy fix either. Hell you nearly have to drop the motor to change the Alternator!
Hell, if the body is decent, it could always be a cool candidate for a Northstar swap!!!!!
