I use JC Taylor no mileage limit and they have "hot rod" coverage
car is covered for 10 grand if stolen/torched, without an appraisal and still have the reg 500/mill liability. I like extra coverage in this day and age.
$150 a year all I had to do was send them some pics

the ins. rep told me 20, so I was just able to get the 88 insured... Altough I think the state claims the car has to be 25 years old to reconize it as a classic...to get the historical plates.. but I'm not 100% positive. Not interested in it so I never bothered to look into it.
well i just found that out this year that you can put period plates on your classic, but but do you have the same limitations as you would if you get the "historical" plates from the state?
maybe I'll have to dig up my liberty plates for the 88
We have Grundy... $390 for the year. Insured for $25,000, No mileage restriction, had to have a Garage. All we had to do is fill out a form and send pictures.
We had gotten a little scratch at a show, we got an appraisal to fix it for around $1100.00, they came out to our house, looked at the car and the appraisal and gave us a check. It was fixed ASAP.
I have a hagerty policy on the 86 for now. Went with them as it was quick easy deal through my local agent, it was cheap, $170 a year for $7500 value and I did NOT have to get historial plates through DMV . Ton of stipulations involved with them though,so i wont be renewing with them this year no drivers with less than 10 years experience car not to be used as daily driver car not to be left unattended in a parking lot unless at a show or cruise are a few I remember off hand
I have my 99 Trans Am with Hea**** Insurance (of which I am my own broker)- $16,000 agree value, $500,000 Combined Single Liability Limit, $250 deductible, Roadside Assistance ($200), annual premium = $255 Annual Mileage limitation= 3,000 miles.
I also represent Hagerty, Grundy & American Classics. Most carriers look at 25+ years for the vehicle to be classified as "Classic", but that doesn't mean that a new vehicle cannot be insured with these companies (eg. myy 99 Trans Am). I have insured 2009 Mustand Cobras with Hagerty, 1995 Mustangs, 2001 Camaro SS, etc.
The companies do not need the vehicles to have "Historical plates" either. Remember, the limitations are there for a reason, to keep the premiums low! If you use these companies for insurance and you abuse those limitations (daily use of cars, not stored in garages, young drivers, etc), then the premiums goes up for ALL of us.
Good luck with your search.

Hey Cisco, can I rent a garage? My Mom owns a rental house and I can have the garage if I want. Its local to me (3 houses away) I can see the garage from most of my east facing windows.

Just use that address as the insurance address

Yes you can. As long as the garage is enclosed and locked, it does not have to be where you live. The "garaging address" has no bearing on the price, unlike regular insurance where it does. So making the mailing address the same as the garaging address only causes problem with your mail.
Keep you home address as the mailing address and let them know where the car is stored. It could be 3 miles away or more, as long as it is secured they won't care. If you need any help with that give me a call.

when we got the the policy on 71 monte 6 years ago through JC Taylor says if insurance cards say "HISTORICAL" on them then historical plates have to be put on the car. NYSDMV varified this as well.

That is true with NY State DMV but there is NO difference in your premium if you choose "Historical" plates over regular plates. There may be a cost difference in the fee for the plates with DMV but as far as your insurance cost it makes no difference and there is no different category between a vehicle with regular plates and a vehicle with Historical plates.
So the choice to have "Historical" plates or not is up to the owner of the car and not the insurance company (in NY state). So if you like "Historical" plates tell your insurance company so they can put "Historical" on the insurance ID card, otherwise get regular plates and don't worry about it.
