hi my name is dante, im from new york new york but live in yonkers for now. i have a 79 monte carlo with a 406,turbo 350 4.11 gears with spool. rollcage and nitrous kit. i have almost sold it 6 times already but i keep changing my mind cuz i like the car too much is just to cool. is cool to find a monte carlo club in ny. too many mustang camaro clubs that i'm a part of lol. anyways good to be here maybe one of yall can help me out in a little problem. currently my car is not running because the timing is way off so it turns on but the carb keeps shooting fire. I was wondering if anyone here would come and fix it or teach me how to fix it so I can start driving it and restoring it again. obviously i will pay you lol thank you
Welcome Dante. Nice looking Monte in that pic! Like Tommy sais, a backfire can be a few things. Got any more info oh when it started to happen? I'm sure someone will chime in with some ideas.

thanks actually i have the car in a shop in manhattan for almost 6 months now. all i know is i did a tune up up and after that the problems started. also i replace two bent pushrods after that idk why they were bent. well long story short i went through 4 starters, new pushrods, and now im rebuilding the carb. two days ago the car started but like i said it was missing alot and the carb was backfiring. i figure is the timing but my mechanic skills arent very good
Wait a sec, Did tune up and 2 push rods and the problem started? Sounds like one of two things. Either you have an intake valve over tightened and the valve isn't seated. Or you have the ignition wires crossed, Hopefully it is just a crossed wire. The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The Timing would need to be almost 90 degrees off to back fire that bad. Did you pull the distributor?

i was thinking the same thing about the wires i did not take out the distributor but i did replace the coil with one from accel. one question how does the firing order work like how do you which wires goes where and which wire on the distributor????
solid, ok, chances are there is no valve lash setting when they were adjusted. Depending in the cam, it should be .016 - .018 lash. Thats what my Lunati soild mec. cam is.
If they were just tightened down theres no room/clearence for heat expantion and then you will bend the pushrods and could possibly push out a rocker arm stud depending on whats in the heads.
