WOW!!! I'm so excited after seeing all these great build threads by others to finially be able to start my own thread on my SS. So with this nice weather, I decided to put in my trunk kit.
Here is what it started out as. I did clean up some of the surface rust first.
Woo Hoo!!! Carpet is down. Looks better already lol
This was about the time I was going insane trying to figure out how this all went together lol
And here is is complete for the most part...
I still need to velcro it together but I wanted to make sure everything was in the right place first. I thought it was a great kit and definately improves the trunk appearence. But I do have some questions on where exactly the small hinge pieces go. If anyone has this kit please let me know.
I'll be adding more to this as I continue to build. I already have a new headliner, fender/firewall braces, and misc. trim pieces that need to get installed.

yeah i can't wait to get started on the headliner. Oh, if someone knows the headliner clips part number please let me know. the dealer had no refrence of it on his computer.
Tim that looks great. i have some headliner clips sitting at home i believe are the ones you need. and WTF kind of dealer do you have that can't look up the clips? i don't even work at a dealer anymore and i can't still look them up..lol
i'll look into it for you.

I can look them up, LOL. The front clip is 20058837 and the rears are 20061050. One problem, the front clips come in a package of 20 and they list for 1.37 each. The rears are available seperately @ 4.46 each. Might be cheaper at Mikes Montes. Give me a chance to look through my stash. I might have some extras.
I have to look into that trunk kit, it's pretty nice.

Jay and Tim i have a box of those 20 sitting at home i believe. I showed Dave the box to ask if he needed any i'll check the part number on the box to make sure it's the same number. If so i'll send some to you Tim plus a few for you to give to Matt for his car.

I don't know Jim. It was one around the corner from me. I hate the place to begin with, but I figured I'd see what they could do. He goes. "huh this is interesting. I see the headliner thats discontinued, but there is no refrence to the clips"
i have a box 20 twenty clips which i believe are the fronts. Jay was going to check to make sure. i'll send you guys enough for 2 cars once we find out how many you need.

Well Tim, I have a box of 20 of the fronts .... but only 4 for the rear. I'm going to need them soon as my headliner shows some sagging. I can send you the fronts if you like.

So tonight i worked on the top plate extentions on the '88. So this is what i did, i just bent the front of the extentions where it goes under the nose. I then was having problems getting the top plate bolt and the outter nose bolt to line up. i really don;t think it had anything to do with the fact that i bend the extention down. Once i got that worked out, i has having trouble getting the washer nuts for the nose on because the washer was too big, so I bent where the nuts lined up. I also had to bend up the back of the extention by the top plate bolt to get it to fit. The extention at the outer nose doesn't sit all the way forward, so I'm afraid to bolt it too tight in fear of distorting/cracking the nose.
For those that have installed these, have to had this much trouble with them... aside from wither cutting the nose or the extentions???
I need to paint them due to the bends chilling the paint off, but maybe I'll get pics this weekend of it.
Tim, If you need them cut drop them off here, Matt found the metal break at school and can do them. the teacher didn't even know how to use it!
And as for mine, I went through the same hassle. Since I was not about to cut the nose pice, I had Matt take about a 1/2" I believe off the upright flange then used a grinder to round the edge that goes along side the top plate of the air box. then of course scuff an paint them to match, LOL!

thanks Dave. I think for now I'm fine, but I'll let you know. I still don;t like how the outer bolts fit, but not exactly sure how to fix it... So I'm letting it sit for a bit so I can go back at it again lol
Tim, thats looking great!! I still can't believe how clean that interior is!
Now I need to get mine out and blow the dust off. Oh and finish plumbing the fuel pump, add the fender supports, buy new tires and an MSD.......................

Well I feel like a brain surgen, replacing the headliner today. I got it out, now I'm cleaning up all the crap!!! I'll post pics later!!!! back to work!!!!
worked more on the car yesterday. The headliner is just a little bit larger than the old one, so getting the front trip piece was a pain. Eventually I had to cut notches in it to get the clips to go it. I think I got it. I didn;t hear a click, but it hasn;t fallen down yet lol. Han one screw up. They drilled the holes wrong for the driver side visor, so when you swing the visor you see a small hole. Most of the time you really wont see it so, I'm not too upset, but it was frustrating. SO I got the dome light, both visors, the front trim and both a-pilar trim pieces up. Hopefully if I can cut the grass like Mario Andretti and can get the car finished up tonight.
Jim those braces were easy to install. there are dilples where the back bolt goes thru. I just test fitted to make sure that everything fit, and started drilling. You will need to get the wipers in the up possition to install the driver side brace.
