Need info on reg. & classic car insurnce in New York State..please!
Permalink Closed

Hi ev1,

I still was able to keep my Jersey tags and insurance until this year on the 1985SS but now need to register and insure in NY.
Does New York have "historic tags"?   what's a good insurance company? (Grundy was great but won't insure in NY) and is there the age restriction? as I may need to put the car in my daughter's name. She won't turn 25 until April 2011.smile

Any info would be greatly appreciated!     Kim

TYVM,   JC Taylor looks good, will look into it!

PS:  for NJ residents.. Grundy was excellent! Since 2003 I only paid $170 a yr for full coverage and 10K replacement value AND when the car turned 25 yrs old this past spring, they reduced my rate to $100/yr. But I no longer have a Jersey address so the registration was not renewed... so needless to say I was afraid to drive it this last yr.

not the case in NY... I have classic car insurance, but my car is only 22 years old.  I'm not positive but I don;t believe I can get historic tags until it's 25, but you don;t need hitoric tags to get classic car insurance.

I think he means the age of the driver has to be 25 years or older, not the car being 25 years old....lol...

Thats strange Tommy and I have Grundy and our cars are Registered in NY State. We pay $400 a year for the 86 and its insured for $25g. Don't have anything bad to say about them either.  When the nose got scratched a few years back, they came out looked at it & looked at the quote from Bodyshop, and wrote us a check right there.

Moved the post

I had American classic car insurance and they sucked!!! I tried to get my rate lowered and move my due date to another month bc i had too much goin on with registering 3 cars in the same month. And they never sent my the papers to reapply so i'm def. goin with Grundy when i get it back together!!

Have Hagarty on the Monte, got it from Cisco (member here)

Some classic insurance companies will insure someone under 25, they just need something like 3 years driving experience and another car insured for daily use.

Are you saying that 25 years old deems a person as a classic??? Ughhhh Good thing I still have years till I become a classic then.

I just insured my 88 through JC Taylor and its only 130 a year. You can't get historic plates in New York until the car is 25 years or older.
