I purchased a 88 monte carlo with a 350 in it. The person I got it from did not have enough money to finish the project. He put back on all the parts from the original 305, ccc, cc distorbitor and intake...I have service soon light on, guessing he did not change computer module either...motor runs beautiful, starts right up and super fast...I just get very bad rough idle, especially at red lights, shakes and vibrate the whole car, but does not shutoff or anything like that. I need help on what to do...should I elminate the computer and go with vacuum dist. and carb or should I try to get a 350 computer module...need help on what to get. Also I live in NY and I want to keep it emissions legal, this is going to be my daily driver....please help...also, he put headers and true dual exhaust with cherry bomb mufflers and no cats. Also has 200r4 tranny.
It's very hard to diagnose issues over the net. But the 305 computer will work just fine with the 350. Mine does.
It sounds like you have a vacuum leak or the carb isn't set right. A lean condition at idle will do that. with it idleing, slighly close the choke plate and see if the RPMs go up. that will tell you it's too lean or not. Good Luck
