when i got my oil change and tire rotation over past weekened at local dealership, on paprer work states what was checked.. belts hoses fluids wipers ect.... yea well i knew my driver side wiper is dead since found the squeegy part of the blade complelty off.. broken,ripped... away from rest of the wiper in one long thin peice down wraped around the arm of wiper blade while i was washing car on friday.. i knew it was shot while trying to clear frost from window past few days in morning on way to work... so when the paper worl showing what was all checked while they did my oil and tire rotation saying they checked the wiper blades.. ahh well if u did u sure didnt ask me if i wanted new one.. so as i was always concerned about.. how can u trust mechanics doing what is expected of them when ur paying them for service.. did i get new filter did he check what was to be checked i know my fluids wherent topped off since winshield washer fluid isnt full.. ect.. .. everyone says take car to dealership not the oil change places on the road cause they dont do the "service" like a mechanic from a dealership does.. well heres proof they dont do any better.... service guy who took my "order" i had asked him what he thinks about my tire life and he says they ok on outside but on the inner part tire they worn pretty good.. i asked how far can u go with these tires being i noticed online they cost 250 each he goes good 50k well im at 40k soo? granted 50 k driven by a granny.. but he goes probally by winter time might want new tires well i aint tossing 10k in mileage by then so..? and are u trying to sell me a idea on something that i dont need as soon as u think.. heck thats why dont like buying used cars.. just got car and a service rep saying might think about getting new tires soon.. umm yea ill just flop u $1k.. heck if i had a tire machine i would buy tires online somewhere and then replace them onto the rims myself im sure the 250ish i see from gm.. i see 2 prices they doing it or u doing it.. only like 25$ difference.. but im sure those tires dont actually cost 225-250 each.. if they do geez lol between that and worrying about brakes soon they good but for how long and who knows other wears and tears.. back enough i have to have body shop figure iut why my passenger door rubs the wheel fender in the bottom corner even thou i dont see any issue with body dmg that was repaired.. just seems something doesnt flush in that corner for some reason.. and why i get water in my trunk and having to replace the front headlight gizmo for few hundred bucks...lol.. sometimes wonder if getting one of my dream cars again is worth all this headaches.. i dont wanna get her professionally detailed til i get that body issue fix.. i need buy new engine cover since its like complelty worped for some reason luckly i saw online for like 50-60 bucks.. ugh lol peo[ple dont buy a new car thats designed for ones who will treat her right if all u plan on doing is beating her up... between the rub marks luckly that got buffed out by dealership i got her from to all this i really wonder what this car went thru.. yea only 40k mileage but musta been a hard 40k she went thru as a car.. lol.. k thanks for letting me vent

Did you get a car fax first? Not that it tells you if someone was rough with the car but it may have swayed you if there was something apparent there. There is only one mechanic I trust. I know it's sad but it's true.

no i didnt i wish i didask for one while i was at dealership when getting the car but same time since i had a 07 ss and when lease came up i couldnt get a deal worked out i saved all my pennys last yr to get another 06/07 ss so when i found one close to home to drive to and get and one with low mileage i kinda was like mine mine mine... but same time wondering maybe i shoulda drove farther and look at others even if it wasnt the original color i wanted back in 07(had red but wanted blue but was week late after they stopped producktion).. so when i saw the blue and low mileage and close enough to home it was like ok its perfect.. lol now i wonder is it? lol..

Always shop around and get a carfax. It doesn't cost that much more and it will kind of give you piece of mind. Low mileage doesn't mean anything anymore. I don't own anything with less than 100K anymore.

As for Dealerships, You really think the $8 and hour lube tech is going to care about your car?? Unless you have it in for an actual repair, the lube guys get the oil changes and quick stuff. Quick lubes are usually filled with Mechanic wannabe's, if your lucky you'll have an retired old mechanic that works their part time for beer money and he'll be more honest with you. Chain stores are not all that much better. I only work for independant repair shops, you get to know the customer, their drive habits as well as their car on a more personal level.

Looking at brakes and tires, unless you know their driving habits, it's impossible to be able to tell them how long anything will last. I have customers that drive like there in a NASCAR race and I know I'll be putting tires and brakes on in about 3 months if there about 50% worn.

That's why I so the work myself whenever possible... Why... Cause I can't afford the prices and don't trust repair shops.

these cars have an issue with the rear tires.
my wifes cars is on it's 3rd set with just over 70k now. the issue has been fixed with special alignment bolts on all 4 struts to fix the alignement.
here is the companies link to what i used.

wow 3rd set ouch.. how much her tires cost.. i see for mine its 250ish each..
so next time im in PA u put them on for me then? lol
so chevy never perfected the monte it seems huh great lol..
wonder why sales slowly slip away... shoulda made it rear wheel drive yrs ago.. shoulda toss a v8 back in 2000 not a v6... then v6 supercharger..... thennnn 2 yrs with V8 then poof..gone and left chevy without a 2 door sports car (besides the retired mans vette) with having the camaro slacking coming out not til what 09? wonder why mustang took off.. i checked a camaro out prior to getting this monte and just wasnt happy with the cheap interrior look and cheezy chipish feel of the door panel and feel of it and the fact that the hood induction was actually fake... the monte's interrior is way far supperrior to the camaro's even to the mustangs when ive parked next to one mine was nicer looking and didnt have as much cheap plastic and dials and such compared to the monte's.. i still think u can have market for both monte and camaro u did all way til mid last decade.. i mean heck a fully loaded v8 monte at 30k with alot room inside and in back and huge trunk space for few bodies u cant get that with a camaro.. now i do still intend to get a camaro (in 5 yrs when i turn 40 which happens to be what the 50th anniversary?) but i just think the last 2 yrs of the monte they got it soo close being perfect then poof gone.... toss on t tops and allow rear wheel drive on the ss's heck toss a standard in it and wham u got ur nascar for u..(plus the t top lol)

I'm out in Buffalo, and I don't make it out that way much.

Ramps are a disaster and dangerous. I just use a floor jack and jackstands. I have 6 vehicles so servicing them is a common site here.

Every car has it's flaws, Doesn't matter who makes it, just need to learn how to overcome the problem. And once you've taken the road to modification, there is no simple answers, it's all problems.

There is no trick to using jacks. Simply slide it under the subframe and jack it up, then put a jack stand under the subframe. IT's a no brainer.

As for the Monte Hunters, between the 4 of us we have 7 Montes. Matt has two, the 87 LS and the 04 Intimadator, Tim has two, the 01 LS and the 88 SS, My son Matt has an 84 SS and I have two, an 01 and an 86 SS.

Just look at any outdoor car show thread we've been too over the last few years, there are plenty of pics.

one night while going to a car night in village liverpool i pulled in and parked by a mint mid 80's style black musta been a ls and she was a shiny chrome and black beauty all stocked never thought anything but a ss look would look so sweet..
i was just with a co worker hanging out and he says u jack one corner and toss stand then on same side u do other corner before going to other side and raising that side correct?.. was asking before cause didnt know in what order/corner u start and if u go fomr side to side or from front/back on one side before going to other side and doing same..
so u guys basically have matching setsmissing a 85.. 84ss,86ss then decided had enough ss's so got a ls in 87 before gonig back to ss in 88 lol... are both 01's ls or ls and ss just to make sure u guys have the family of montes for that yr lol... i take it the 04 is just cause of the intimadator lol.. other than that u guys can have ur own little mid 80s car dealership.... well at least when if i ever do get a mid 80s monte ill know which guys to go to.. what colors can i order from u guys? lol

Yeah 84 to 88 are all the same body style. And As far as I know, None of these are for sale. And as a matter of fact, we did invade a small dealership once.

Doesn't matter what corner you start at.
