at a corner at red light i was at, a car came up quick up to right of me at the light then noticed the cop across the intersection and he braked "peacefully" then "gradually" took off as the light turned green.. meanwhile im like nope that cop probally had eyes on me whole time me and him where across each other at light, u go ahead there cobalt ill see u down the road.. up road next light i got on his right but gave him a 2/3 car length at the red light..( i mean cmon i have a v8 hes got a 4)... as we both waited i saw him rocking back and forth (knowning ok hes got a stick).. light turns green we go i get out ahead of him and then he regains that 2/3 lead and with my lane being a merge lane i had to back off.. at next light he turned left on a green and as i rolled thru light going straight i gave him a honk and he honked back.. meanwhile im like nice kid ill give u that one.. knowing im on old tires and i wasnt paying to much attention to my rpms as i was shifting thru my gears i might been able to shifted at better speeds to get the extra speed i needed to get by him.. i looked on my phone internet and looked up 0-60 speed on a cobalt ss .. knowing for a yr or 2 they did have a supercharger on them... found a link telling me in 08 they came out with a 260 (compared to a 205 hp supercharger) turbo charger with a 0-60 time of 5.7 knowing mine is a 5.6 and i have like high 13's to low 14's 1/4 mile i saw the cobalt turbo has a 14.3.. sooo im guessing thats what he had and would explain why it woulda been neck to neck if i wasnt to ****y thinking my v8 woulda embaressed him and didnt give him that 2/3 car lead at the light.. hope i see him again (after i get new tires.. next spring with my tax return).. either way cooldles to him and the cobalt and shame on chevy 06/07 monte with v8 best chevy had besides vette then mid way thru 07 no more monte then wham they make a colbalt on steroids that matches a monte v8 ss whats up with that.. ill take his car im sure he gets better gas mileage and doesnt need premium... and heck that colbalt even comes with same 18 size tires my car comes on wtf.. lol..
It could also be that your a poor driver, lol. I'm sure he had a full tank after your street fury match and you needed a fill up. I had heard that if you remove your windshield wipers that you could gain an extra mpg as the engineers intended aerodynamic properties of the car when developed will be nearly 100%. Just a thought. lol......
Jon, In my book, you have 3 strikes against you for what you just wrote!
1. You were in a straight line, worn tires will give you better traction on take off. New tires will slip and create a washboard effect. Why do you think drag racers run slicks?
2. You were street racing! I don't care who or what. Street racing is for loosers. You want to drag race, go to the track PERIOD!!!
3. Finally, you were on your phone, searching the internet while driving. Thats really intelligent! Great way to get yourself or someone else hurt.
So basically, in one gramatically incorrect paragraph, you just showed everyone that your on the same intelligence level as a 18 year old driving a stock Honda Civic with a fart can Muffler and a big sheet metal wing bolted to the rear deck lid!

didnt say i was on phone looking on internet.. i looked his car up after the fact to see what options the cobalts ss's had over the years.... wouldnt newer tread give me better grip thou? or is it different when ur speeding compared to normal driving when it comes to tire tread? ... also he only won even thou the lead i gave him i took back and then some as we took off only for him to regain the roughly same 2/3 car length i had originally gave him was the amount i lost by since my lane had to merge with his i had to give up.... he had a standard which i read online those turbo's cobakts had a luanch control on them as well as some fancy style speed shifters on the 08's .. again which stated 5.7 for his 0-60 while mine is 5.6 his 1/4 mile is like 14.3ish mine never seen actual number but read by someone that its anywhere from high 13 to low 14's so basically that turbo cobalt against my v8 pretty much matched toe for toe.. i just didnt want to make him feel bad when i raced by him in my v8 not knowing that they had a turbos in thos cobalts the original SS colbat had a supercharger with 205 hp the 08 one had a turbo with 260 hp.. and also i dont know if i used my gears correctly as i shifted i dont know if i got the right rpm's before i shifted since i was more shocked that he was keeping side by side with me for me to look at my tach to squeeze each gear's worth of rpms out of it..

i bet his did too lol..my wipers sit under the hood unlike the 2000-2005
dont bother "shifting the gears", you will never be able to shift better than the computer can. Plus, its electronically controlled, its gonna shift when it needs to (cant hold it in gear long) And, manually shifting an automatic is hard on the clutches and not a good thing to do to an already weak transmission.
There's a reason people sold their Montes, Grand Prixs and Impalas to buy Cobalts. They are easily modded, weigh less and will blow the doors off a W-Body.
so i guess now the question is can i toss a turbo or super on mine lol..
how do i know how much more i can do to it i dont wanna go crazy but anywhere like 25 to 50 more hp and same with torque if thats possible without doing to much "stress/whatnot" to my engine

.. i looked on my phone internet and looked up 0-60 speed on a cobalt ss ..
Right there YOU said you looked on your phone internet!
If you used proper grammer and didn't blend everything together in one paragraph like a teenager texting, maybe it would have looked like you did it later. Read what you posted and you'll get the same idea

Dammmmmnnn Big Bad V8 got BEAT UP by a 4 cylinder turbo, what's the world coming too!!!! Gotta watch them turbo cars, they can be killers!
Joe
lol yea i know right wtf.. i thought back in 07 when i got my original ss i thought i was cool with the v8 than picking a pontiac soltice with a turbo.. same price range as the 30k monte ss but monte had like 40 more hp and who knows but im sure tons more torque and is a v8 over the whatver the pontiac had 4 or a v6 i wanted to be "cool" to have my first v8 sports car..lol.. u go to a car show noone wants to see the 4 bangers over on their little corner.. but lol we might need to keep eye on them now thou..

k yea sorry about the bunched up stuff.. never did like english class and doing essays..
The Monte is a nice car. Personally I would do minor bolt ons (exhaust, CAI, etc.) and enjoy it the way it is. Just my opinion.
thats fine with me too, i was figureing that woulda been easier and safer to do as u had mentioned than anything more complicated without having to get into the tranny and engine mods.. (specially as a front wheel drive)
now with those minor mods could i gain least 25 hp and increase torque?

You might be able to get close with quality parts and a good tune.
if im able to squeeze out roughly 25 more hp and added torque even thou im happy with it at 324 is another 25 to hp.. is that enough to notice a step quicker or no? i do know i would love better exhaust one more V8 sounding than a purrr, rommm, purrrrrrrrrrrr
Thanks. I live near the water so I knew of a private dead end road that I sit at sometimes to relax. I think you can get a nice noticeable difference with bolt ons. You will feel the torque more than anything and the bolt on options will give a positive result. I can't say exactly how much power but the LS series engines respond well.

so its not worth the bother to manually shift it then as well as its not good for the tranny? also better to keep TC on of off?

sounds to me your just making excuses :P If someone wants to race, give it your all or nothing at all. Twice the size does not mean twice the power. :)
well normally i know what im up against and if i know i can beat it then ill do it otherwise im not gonna go into it knowing i have no chance.. and so when i gave him a 2/3 car length at the light and then i was able to make up that gap and then some just for him to then catch up and be neck to neck with a colbalt i kinda lost my ability to use my gears perfectly getting most rpms out each before switching like ive done many times when i had a standard .. but using the gear box to switch and the fact i was little taken back by the guts on the colbalt i think i was switching gears quicker than i shoulda hoping to get speed quicker than i actually was able to... but afterwards i had looked up the colbalt knowing they did have a supercharger for a bit on those and wanted to see if they had anything that could be as fast as that kids car.. and found they had a turbo in them in 08 (at least in that yr) and that their times matched the 06/07 monte ss within tenths all around.. so basically i guess theres some 4 cylinders oyut there stock that will match some v8s out there
k thanks.. didnt know if the computer woulda shifted when its thinking its best for fuel mileage than power thats all.. reason why i asked about TC some people say turn off some say keep on
Exactly! You can't go around "picking" on cars that your thinking you'd have a Guaranteed win against, that's what i love about my monte, people "Know" there gunna win against it...like 4.6 litre Mustangs and a few other cars...love seeing there jaws on the floor after they realize something is wrong....people even take the gto for granted....If your gunna race, race to win, don't give an edge and then make excuses when you still come in second.
Joe
So I shouldn't go around racing shopping carts in the parking lot? But they are such easy wins especially when w race into the wind....
