It took 101 years but it did. I find it very disturbing reading about the fire in Bangladesh. Back on March 25, 1911 the same thing happened in New York City at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. From that point on the labor movement pushed even harder for laws to help protect workers safety and fight for a fair wage. It is very disturbing to me to see all the things that have been accomplished the last 100 years going down the drain! The 40 hour work week, 8 hours of work per day and anything more than that is payed at a higher rate, vacation and holiday time, healthcare, pension, breaks, and lunch all being lost and replaced with lower wage jobs where you are expected to work harder and get payed less. Do you see it too? Take a look around you. Has your vacation and sick time been cut over the years? How many of you take a coffee break anymore? How many even heard of a coffee break? How about lunch away from the desk or whatever it is you do? I see so many people eating at there desk and working. Over a period of time that too will be expected and lunch will be lost. How about the holidays. Remember when EVERYTHING was closed? Time was spent with the family, friends or just relaxing. Stores opening on Thanksgiving to me is just taking things one step further!! What is up with that? Don't people know how to enjoy their families and friends anymore so they need to go shopping? How about the people that have to work at these stores. They lose their family and friend time.
I totally agree Bob, It's anything to make a buck these days! Heck, I didn't even take a vacation this year, everytime I tried, someone else had a day off, or there was a training class or something else came up. I did take four days off this year, but made them count!

I understand what you are saying Bob, but when I look and read these stories, I think more along the lines of how lucky we are to have the jobs we have, lucky to be working in a country that has laws that protect us. So If I have to work through lunch and work a few extra hours and harder than the next guy to keep my job... that's fine by me. It's dog eat dog..LOL
As far as the fires in Bangladesh, that is tragic.. when I heard that story, I instantly thought of the Triangle shirt factory too. You know, being in the Textile instustry and working on 7th Ave, here in NY, I have learned all about this tragedy. Did you know, that there is a yearly event to memorialize the victoms of that fire? They burned because the owners locked the back doors to keep the Unions out and keep them from talking to the empoyees, so when the fire started they couldn't get out.
I guess it depends on your prospective, and I am gonna count my blessings on this one :)
Sad thing is it sounds like the doors were also locked at that plant in Bangladesh. Kind of ironic how the news stopped reporting on it once they started saying they found cloths being made for Walmart and Disney. HMMM Disney being one of the six corporations that own the media
Today, six colossal media giants tower over all the rest. Much of the information in the chart below comes from mediaowners.com. The chart below reveals only a small fraction of the media outlets that these six behemoths actually own....
