Most of my taxes are going to the monte...and I'm stuck on a split decision on what to do this year..
I was thinking of either lowering the monte (with a 1.6'' drop)..everything together costs about $930 for parts, installation is easy.
Or..................
Go for broke and add some horses with exhaust work; u-bend delete, resonator delete, headers & exc, cold air intake, smaller supercharger pulley & tune....(and also a tuneup, will need it!)
Going by what the wife gets in taxes, I should see about $2500 this year.. (promoted to management january of last year, our pay is similar)
If I drop it, I'll need someone to help with the installation..
& anything that doesn't require a tune I'll need help with also.
Anything to add performance I want to do things together...such as if I get a cai, I want a smaller pulley & tune so that I'm sure there is no KR, BUT for the pulley I need a better flow through the exhaust such as a ubend delete, & headers, downpipe or whatever needs to be changed. From the cat- back should be fine with the aftermarket mufflers already installed.
&&& anything for suspension I don't know what else needs to be changed before I touch it. Alot of the front components are changed such as control arms, tie rod ends, sway bar links, ball joints. Just needs new sway bar bushings for front and rear..rear sway bar links are a must(you can probably snap the thing with a sturdy kick they look so weak from rust!)
I don't know what else in the rear that needs to be changed. the amount above is every part excluding sway bar bushings. probably going with greasable polys. Last time I looked, i believe its the trailing arms look ok, just some surface rust. A little sanding & paint to make them new looking. Bushings are decent.
& yes I know modding cuts the value of the car, but If I plan on selling the car...why would I bother? Toys are ment to be tinkered with :) Plus, her value has already been destroyed the moment the original owner de-badged her so whatever.
Depending on what size pulley you want to go to, header arent needed. You can run a 3.4" with ported exhaust manifolds, CAI, T-Stat, Colder plugs, tune and Ubend. You shouldnt need headers till 3.25"
For $2500, you should be able to do everything, performance and lowering. I can compile a list of parts you should look into. Ive been modding the W-Body for 13+ years.
that would be good :) I've got everything set up for suspension except the sway bar bushings, performance I really don't know were to start..(except for the cai, thats easy)
My personal advice would be upgrade the brakes and the suspension first, then work on power.
On my 01, I started with drilled and slotted rotors with Hawk Brake pads from Summit, less than $300 for all 4 corners. Made a huge differance in stopping power. 2 years ago, $880 for new rims and lower profile tires, Last year I replaced the struts, mounts and lowering springs, plus sway bar links and a wheel bearing, I think I spent $500. I hope to finish off the suspension with the tubular trailing arms this spring. Over the next few years, I want to start building more power.
Also Ebay can help alot! I paid $90 for the complete set of lowering Springs with free shipping. I think The performance Struts wre $150 for the set. And I love them, smooth but firm ride and handles great!

The 2500 you are planing to get back is that the number before or after the 2013 tax change? You may be getting less back if you used the 2012 numbers.
Just something to think about that may effect your choice of upgrades.

Looking at my tax forms I should be getting somewere near the amount I guessed. I'm not too familure with how it works. Even if I don't get what I want I'll probably have enough to lower the car & thats it..
