I had a mechanic work on my '87 Monte Carlo SS and I need advice. I replaced the original carb with an Edelbrock 650 CFM electric choke performer series. I also had to get a torque converter lockup kit due to the new carb. The car has air conditioning as well. One issue I have is sometimes if I put the gas pedal to the floor, the cars motor power stops, as if someone hit a kill switch to the engine and if I let off the pedal slightly, the motor kicks in and off I go..... Any ideas?
Also, Do I even need my computer hooked up? With the changes I made, what purpose does it have? What, if anything, is my computer helping to control?
Much Thanks

Basically, the computer control 3 things. The Torque convertor clutch, the carb adjustments [rich/lean] and the distributor timing advance. The problem you will find is deleting the computer without replacing the distributor, will cause pinging, hard starts and even no starts.
The symptom you have described sounds like a bad accelerator pump. The motor needs an extra squirt of gas when you punch it, Not so much on gentle acceleration.
