The new Caprice is here, but you can't have one. The LS-powered, rear-drive former Pontiac G8 will be available in 2011 for law-enforcement usage only On the plus side, I guess we'll be able to pick them up when they auction them off from fleet duty. Hopefully, if the program proves successful and the economy turns around a little, Chevy will consider selling them to the masses. One question I have is since most municipalities and state governments (and federal agencies) require fleet cars purchased to be American made, how will they justify these machines, which we assume will be assembled in Australia?

Eh...No surprise...GM Has a GoldMine of cars in Australia (Holden) and in China (Buick) and the Middle EAST (Chevy) Europe (Opel) but they don't bring them here or they bring them here so late that the design is already old (GTO) ....To me there dropping the ball with the G8.....but I'm glad they brought them here even for a lil while....down the line I'll be looking for a used G8 GXP if nothing else comes up...
someone on another board mentione this and I think it makes a good point. When GM was going through bankrupcy court, they had to present how GM was going to be profitable. by shifting all of GM's line up into different brands, that doesn't show how you can make money. they had to show actual cuts. With GM bringing the Caprice over to chevy (basically a G8 but Larger) they can at least say this is a different car for different group of people. Unfortunately Holdens plant is reaching a capacity issue, so i think it's good that they are bringing it over as a fleet car. And you know there is a market for it with the Crown Vic going away. I have no doubt that we will see the Commadore or Caprice for civilians when they are scheduled to be redesigned in 2012 i believe.... and possibly be built along with the Camaro, if they are committed to the Zeta architechual
And with that post, GM announced today that the Impala will continue to be FWD even on the next platform in 2013....Bad Move IMO by GM
However they did say that Chevy maybe getting another RWD Sedan under a different name in the future (Caprice?)
They are funny they didn't like rebadging and in house competition but now people may have a choice of 3 Chevy Sedans...Malibu, Impala, and Caprice....and No Big Muscle Car Coupes...
The Super Epsilon II that will be underpinning the Impala is going to be dimensionally very similar to the upcoming “Premium Epsilon” Cadillac XTS. The XTS will have unique suspension and a high end all-wheel drive system to differentiate the two versions of the platform.
while I'm not a fan of awd on cars, it's better than fwd. So here's hoping that the Impala has the option for AWD for compete against the Taurs
shame that the G8 did not work out. from all the reviews they were a great car for the money. i think that the police caprice would be too expensive for law enforcement and might not sell well.
I really don't think any chevy is getting an AWD system, Cadi. Definitely...even perhaps buick, but no way on an Impala or Caprice...Probably FWD on an Impala, every edition and RWD on a Cprice Every Edition...Just MO but only time will tell...
