stalled at the dyno
Permalink Closed

well guys and gals, since getting new parts put on the six, brodix heads, crower shaft rockers, head studs and cometic gaskets, and a little bigger carb. i sent the motor off for another set of runs on the dyno. got a call a few hours ago with some not so good news. motor flat hits the wall at 6800 rpm and will not pull any further. they're main head guy says the intake is done. i had a feeling this would eventually show it's face. so the six is done at 683 peak with a little bump to 16 lbs, the guys tried and said if the intake could breathe i would be in the money with 725 to 750 then it would mean bigger turbo. oh well, it made it this far. mike

Mike those are some damn fine numbers for a 6cyl but yes it would've been even better to hit the 725-750 mark.weeeeeee

I agree! I wish My SS had that kind of power! Maybe you need to use some of your wicked fabricating skills and make a sheetmetal intake?

thanks guys, not sure if they videoed this time around guys. for these guys vids and proper printers is something they don't seem to care about. i was telling delmonte last time around it looked like they were using toilet paper on a 30 year printer lol. i'll be picking the motor back up this coming weekend if my shop isn't to busy i'll get it this week.

sheeesh, only 683!! If I were you mike I would trash the motor and build something else.
Better yet, send me the motor and I'll trash it for you, save you the trouble of doing it yourself ;)

Nah!... send it to me. I have some of that stuff we used in the cash for clunkers program. I'll dispose of it "properly" wink

well guys, got the intake here, been tweeking on it a bit, never enough lol. i just purchased a new set of gm heads that are a little more torque friendly. i have acquired 2 more carbs for dyno use to see what this thing will pull. another barry grant 600 blow thru and an and old modified by me carter 650. i'm going to go ahead and put the DIS setup on there as well to ring every last bit out of this little guy. i also will be taking a tad bigger turbo with me back to the dyno if this one can't keep up . if all goes well i should be able to hit my original mark of 735 to 750 hp and 550 to 575 ft lbs.@ no more than 20psi. that will be be the stopping point for this engine combo. then it will be on to bigger and heavier ideas for the monte. mike
