Hello all, long time no see. Been busy here. Got a question. My son is fast approaching the big 16 birthday, which is in May. So I have been poking around for another Monte. I have been looking on the more popular sites like ebay and auto trader, and the prices have seemed to have jumped more then I expected. I have been looking in the 84-88 range and it looks to be the starting price for a CL coupe is starting around $4,000. The SS was in the $7500 and up. The malibu's were the same way. It was bitter sweet to see those prices. Do any of you think our cars are starting to enter the next level in the car market?
I would say there right on the edge. Keep looking and you will find one in your price range. Nice clean stock 4th gens. with low mileage are bringing some pretty good money now.
Cisco just scored a clean 86SS in NC for $3500.00.
I have seen the same thing, Looking for a Nice SS for Matt 2 years ago was hard! Either the body was rotted really bad and had a good frame, or the body looked good and the frame was shot. These cars are pullin some good money now, Thats a plus for those of us who own one, but negative for those looking for one.
Liek Tommy said, keep looking the right one will appear one day.

check craiglist as well. i found my bargan for the right price, but it took me a while to find the right one. I do believe that as the years pass, these cars will gain in desire due to all the 60's and 70's classics becoming harder to come by/afford.

I've noticed that, too, lately. I still look at CL and AT every so often ... and am amazed at some of the prices people around these parts are asking. Course, their version of "rust free" is NOT the same version of "rust free" that southern states (i.e. Texas, New Mexico, Arizona) have. Still ... comparatively, it seems people up here are asking far more than I would be willing to pay for a "northern" car. But, AT and CL have been good to me ... with AT bringing home my '87 MC LS/CL that was my daily driver mid-2003 to late 2009 ... and CL bringing home my current daily driver/winter beater '79 Caprice Classic sedan.
Are you looking specifically for the CL interior package? Or, just any 84-86 SC or 86-88 LS, whether or not it has the CL interior upgrades?

they're out there. the thing is not to go to the big sites. you need to find somone thats just hard up for the cash at that moment. sad to day.. but its the way to do it.
but, i'm glad monte's are finally getting in to the price range they deserve. and fwiw.. gn's are in the toilet right now.

Hey Tony, Just a clean one, Its going to be his first car so safe is first. Looked at an 84 ss the other day, it was ok, had a 350, tranny kit, 3:73 rear so I was told, with an older repaint on it. wasn't a hack transplant. I don't know, he was firm on $4800, just wasn't nice enough to drop that kind of coin.
