Favorite road trip memory?
Permalink Closed

With spring and the unofficial "road trip" season approaching, I'm sharing a daily "Road Trip Snapshot" photo/link on Facebook.

Since 2002, I've done at least one major road trip a year to meet people and see family/friends.  Unfortunately, I did not "document" those first 2 trips.  The second trip, an August 2003 excursion out east, came 7 months after my last open heart surgery and about a month after I bought my 1987 Monte Carlo LS/CL, which performed flawlessly through Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky.

I went west, October 2004, and planned my trip around the ValveReplacement Reunion in Golden CO, traveling as far west as Utah:

I went east again, August 2005, in a virtual "reversal" of my 2003 trip, though I went a little farther south and a little farther east, from Alabama/Georgia to New Jersey/Pennsylvania:

I went west again, October 2006, in a "shortened" excursion due to less vacation time, making it as far as Texas/Oklahoma/Iowa:

I went southeast, November 2007, to go farther south than I had been previously, traveling all the way to northern Florida:

I went east again, August 2008, in a shorter and somewhat combined version of my 2003 and 2006 travels through to New Jersey:

I went southwest, September 2009, and south, November 2009, going as far as California along famed US Route 66:

While I look forward to driving to the northeast this year (August 2010) and then to the northwest sometime in 2011, it's fun reminiscing about previous road trips.  So ... what are your favorite road trip memories???

Well, I haven't done as many road trip as as you, Cort, But The few that I have taken have had some great memories.

5 years ago when I went to Myrtle Beach the 1st time, I was lucky enough to stop in Moorseville NC, to see a long time friend of mine that moved away a few years prior. We had dinner with him and got to see where he worked and drove past a few NASCAR team shops too!

Then taking the trip to Cinci for the Monte Nationals in 07, Doug, myself and our boys had a riot driving and finding all kinds of things that seemed odd to us.

Same thing happened when We went with Tim to find his Monte! We just seem to have a great time whenever we hit the road

my best was my cross country trip to see my ex.. talk about a drive (literally and figuratively ) ft. lauderdale to winslow az in 31 hours. 2100 miles in 31 hours.. mostly all by myself. the drive to see her was unreal. lol i remember in new mexico i kinda had no sleep. i remember waking up looking at my friend that i knew since 3rd grade flipping out asking who he was and where i was. i ran inside and called ben asking why and where i was. lol it was funny. anyway, for many reasions thats the best trip ever for me.

now others that stand out.. my first cruise with the nymcc. lmao best line to this date is tommy "we all went around the corner then we hear this insane whistle.." lol

ooooor when we went to pa for the pa bbq.. on the way home and that lightning past us.. i went after it :D

then there was the trips with me and tom r. lmao i can go for hours.

SoOoOoOoO Many to list...like Jim said any with the NYMCC...

But some moments that stand out...

My first cruise with the NYMCC to Monte Madness 05

I wait on the si side of the Outerbridge....get a call from Tim: "we'll be thier soon...you can't miss us it's lineup of montes"

Sure enough I see Montes coming around the turn towards the bridge...almost cause an accident between everyone letting each other go first...

After we get over the bridge I see were bearing left to get on the NJ Turnpike...and all of a sudden I see this Pickup with come flying up in the right lane...as I see the truck I say this guys a nutjob! then I see the double car carrier with 2 montes and I say this nutjob is with us! LMAO...then he swerves the whole truck from the left lane to the right I was like Whoa! It was Tom R. by the way

Later on same trip Rob video taping both from the left lane and the shoulder...looking at the camera the whole time while the road was in front...lol..

Of course the Orient Point cruise qith Tim and Gabi....Tim: You wanna go for it??? Me: No Tim! Gabi's in the sunroof....and sure enough we both started racing...lol....

Of course anytime we go on a cruise and I'm always in the wrong lane and Tommy yell's over..."We have to get off now Joe!" and me shooving my 3800 pund car with in inches of Tommy's bumper and the person behind him...

Always a Blast!!!!
Joe
