I have 2 vans, an 02 dodge 1500 conversion and an 03 chevy 2500 service van. I lost the high speed on the blower motors. The Dodge is at the dealer at the moment having the crankshaft position sensor replaced so I figured what the heck, check the blower. Was told it was the resistor on the blower motor and would cost almost $400 to repair. My question is where is this resistor and how difficult of a job is it to replace?

On the 03 Chevy the blower resistor and relay are in the same module. it is mounted right along side the blower motor, in fact, the wires from the blower motor lead right to the module. They go bad all the time because of the amperage draw from the blower motor. Plus they have a tendancy to melt the connector as well. I always replace the Motor, module and harness at the same time, Saves on comebacks. Module and motor are available at NAPA and the harness at the dealer.

As for the Dodge, they use a separate relay for high speed, It should be mounted on the HVAC box under the hood, The resistor is there too, but you need to remove the fan shroud to access it. The blower motor is right next to it. also Dodge uses a separate fuse for High speed. So check that too.

hope this helps

we have dodges where I work, we always replace the resistor and blower motor at the same time, if you don't, the resistor will not last long. haven't had any trouble with the GM vans yet.
