hello all it's been a while, working a lot! but been trying to get my car on road but my timing is off a little. to start off i completely rebuilt my 305, put a mid cam in, making sure the timing chain was on correct with dots facing each other. when i bring to TDC when i feel the puff from #1 my timing mark on balancer is not on tab mark on block, "not truley TDC"? i pulled my valve cover to watch lifters open and close. i have to go a couple more clicks for my balancer mark to come around to mark on tab "0". do i then drop dist in? pointing at #1 and go from there? thanks Luke

That's all you have to do. Do you have a OEM two piece dampner? If you do, sometimes the outer ring can slip and move your timing mark. It's not that common, but it can happen.
yes it's a oem dampner, i'll give that a shot, thanks

actually, it happens quite a bit. My balancer is less than 10 years old and it's already slipped about 6 degrees. Both Summit and Jegs offer a balancer cover that once mounted covers the entire balancer and has the timing marks on them. Or buying a new balancer is another option

well i found a issue, on my intake gasket across the front of block hidden behind my alternator my gasket worked it's way out in the corner! also took my ignition module in to get checked and come to find out the distributor is a canadian model, is that a problem? thanks Luke

yeah Gaskets do that. And as for the distrubutor, I believe the only difference is the ignition module. the main castings are all the same, most likely built in canada. So no it's not a problem

completely unrelated question....what kind of cam did you use? and how do you like it?
