2 weeks ago when driving to li, my car was getting pretty hot, up to 250 Degrees, in the past my car has never gone past 180....
The fan went on, and when I went to check my 180 tstat, there was some gunk on it....
So I replaced the t-stat, hoses, did a flush and even replaced the radiator as it was the original one that came with the car. There wasn't really any gunk anywhere else that I could see (Phew)
So the car cooled down quite a bit, now for the 2 questions
1.) I took the coolant sensor off the original radiator and put it on the new one, but my "low coolant light" stays on (Yes the coolant is full), I tried clearing it with a programmer, and even tried disconnecting the battery for a while for it to reset, but the light is still on...should I just buy a new sesnor....
2.) I never use the A/C but I turned it on the other day and noticed the second fan didn't go on...( I didn't replace the fans) the car wasn't getting abnormally hot but the second fan never kicked in, what temp should it be kicking in? And is there anything to look for, other then repalcing the fans entirely as to why the second fan wouldn't kick in?
Thanks for the help guys and gals! Joe

Joe as far as i know the secong fan should go on as soon as you turn the AC on. Did your AC actually turn on? Also those sensors go bad all the time on the radiator, just get a new one. As far as the fans if you need a new one hit me up. We make them here where i work so i can get you a good price.

I didn't think it was on the resevoir ( I didn't see it) I thought mine was on the passenger side of the radiator....I took off some sensor off the radiator then, lol...I'm gunna order a new one regardless just wanted to make sure there was no way to reset it, other then the 2 ways I tried
And yes my A/C definitely goes on and blows nice and cool...but the 2nd fan didn't go on so I guess it's kaput...no rush for that cause I don't really use the a/c....my friend works at a gm dealership so I can go through him to get it if need be,
OK I (finally) narrowed it down, I don't need a whole new set of fans, just the passenger side motor looks to be gone so i just need to replace that and hopefully that resolves my cooling issues...
But here's something strange my low coolant light was has been on, Jay got me a new sensor, so I went to install it (Car is cold didn't start it or anything) I took off the old one preparing to have coolant come out of the hole were the snesor goes, and nothing not a drop...put the new one on and I still get the samething, "Low coolant level" Hooked up a scanner no codes or anything...I disconnected the battery for a minute put it back on and same issue...
Now I know there should be some coolant coming out of the hole were the sensor is, but I'm not sure if that only happens when pressure is built up (didn't wanna leave the sensor off with the car on and have coolant shooting outta the whole) lol...
Very srange, I'm gunna have to look at it better when I take the fans off to replace the motor...
Anything I'm missin? (Oh yeah and the coolant is full I triple checked that lol)

the hole is probably clogged Joe when you take the sensor back off. take a pic or something like that to stick in the hole and open the hole up. i would just replace the complete fan asm. instead of just the motor.

Coolant level is all the way up to the opening at the top, I'm gunna see if the hole is clogged and try and stick something through it..
OK Jim, pm me the $ if you can still get the whole assembly, my friend says he has a spare motor from an Impala, but I think it'd be faster if I go with you and get the entire assembly...
Joe, some after market radiators may not be drilled forn the sensor. they may use that # on cars without a sensor and have to open the hole for a car with a sensor. Check that out.

I'll definitely check it out, this is a GM Radiator from a dealship, but even then it could still have a blockage that needs to be drilled out...Hopefully that is it...gunna do it all in one shot when I get the new fans/motor etc...

Just checked the parts catalog. It says sensor hole has to be drilled out!!!! Problem solved. ... that one anyway! LOL You gotta find a better Parts Geek..... hmmm, wonder where you can find one

Joe, something I came across a few months back, Look at the harness that is next to the drivers side dog bone mount, the harness on your car should be secured to the mount bolt, if not, check to see if the harness has rubbed through on the aluminum mount. there is a wire that triggers the fan relay, it shorts out the fuse and cuts power to the fan relay, thus setting the code. Something to look into.

I don't think it's the fan Jim, at this point I don't know what it is, I have to do some investigating, (Take a look at what Dave said and such), I think something blew the fuse, and when that blew, the fan motor probably went...I gotta find out what blew the fuse first and such....I say that cause that's the second fan that died....gunna check it out soon, (probably after Binghamton)
