With labor day here and a little cooler weather, it's time to start thinking of the fall and eventually the snowy cold winter. It's about time to close the pool and before you know it, it will be time to store the monte.
Here is what I plan on doing late november or whenever the weather consistenly changes.
Put the car on moving dollies (as Bob has done) to be able to store the car closer to the garage walls and thus be able to slide the car over in the garage when wanting to work on it or whatever without having to move the vehicle outside and having to try to carefully repark it as close as I can.
I would like to buy an exhuaust hose that I can run under and out under the garage door so I can start the car up occasionally during the winter months. I think I will have it backed in so I will need a long hose. Where do you buy these? Pep Boys I imagine?
I want to get a decent cover for the car but I really hesistate to spend $300 on a california cover. The cover I need will only need to be rated for inside storage. Not worried about precipitation and wind. What do you recommend that is $100 or less?
Also what other winterizing things do you do to you're cars? gasline anti-freeze, etc?
Matt, Here is what I do, Fill the tank with gas, add Sta-Bil, lay down a bunch of cut up boxes to keep the moisture away from the bottom of the car, park it in the garage on top of wooden blocks [you have got dollies so thats better], disconnect the battery, put a layer of old comforters on then My car cover, then another layer of blankets on the car, wrap old towels around the wheels to keep the snow splatter off and walk away, Oh and I put the old fiero seats up against the driver's door so it doesn't get more door dings from my wife's truck.
Don't bother starting it over the winter, unless you plan on taking it out for a drive. otherwise condensation will build up and rot out the exhaust. Oh and leave the windows open a crack to let the interior breathe.

I do the same with the Sta-bil...fill it up and put some in. I usually put an old pool cover down on the floor, but the boxes will work too. I disconnect the battery, change the oil and make sure it's nice and clean and waxed. Crack the windows just a little, and fill the tires to 40 (to avoid flat spots). And for a car cover, I honestly have the $22 one from Wal-Mart. It works perfect for inside storage. Been using them for years on light and dark colored cars.
And in terms of starting them, don't bother unless you are going to drive it as the condensation builds up. I park mine beginning of November (sometimes earlier, sometimes later, depending on the weather) and if it gets nice during the winter, they come out for a quick ride. However, the past 2 winters, I've let the cars sit from end of October until end of April, and they've all been just fine.
If you need help winterizing let me know! I have it down to a science because of the fleet. LOL

People cannot drive here, plus the lake effect snow is crazy. Mine stays nice and warm inside all winter.
And no problem on the tips for the covers. I should mention like I was telling Matt tonight, get one size bigger than what the box calls for...or like Tim and I, you'll be returning it for another. I get Size 5 and they fit nicely.

fill the tank with 87.. no reason putting good stuff in it. put some gas line antifreeze in it. put mothballs around the car, a dryer sheet on the inside, a real good bath, and a battery maintainer, cover it and forget it. yet.. i dont have to do any more winter storages.. but if i did again i'd do everything i mentioned but insted of putting it up on blocks i'd put it up on 4 jack stands.
