ive used synthetic on my last few cars.. u guys think still good way to go with this used 06 ss i just got with 40k on it.. and which brand u guys like more than otheres
i only use it if the car calls for it or if its turbo charged. i use it on my buick and at 3k miles its just turning color (mobil 1). on a na car dino oil is fine.

I use Mobil 1 in both of my SS's. My kid uses Royal Purple in his SS. I found it does give you a bit more fuel mileage, maybe .5 per gallon, and they all seam to idle and accelerate better. Plus changing the oil twice a year is better than 4 times a year.

i'm anal with my oil changes. every 3k in the gn eventhough its syn. i can tell you what i have found... castrol syntec is awful. at 3k miles in the gn it was BLACK where 3k with mobil 1 is just turning.

i have no problem changing every 3k just figureing in long run for engiine wear its better with synthetic than normal oil.. so go with mobile 1 then guys?
dont think so Rob, I cant remember anyone on NAIOA talking about the factory fill. Plus I sell Mobil1 oil cap decals for them. If it came from the factory, it would have the Mobil1 cap already.
I ran Mobil1 in my 04 Impala SS, I dont in the 300 because of the amount of oil this thing requires. 8 quarts!!!!
ummm lol k so whats the verdict... syn or reg and which brand... also would u guys do it urself than bringing it to a dealer to do and pay all that for something that takes few minutes to do if im able to figure way to.. i guess buy ramps? now that i owning this one unlike the lease i had on the 07 one i wanna start to learn how to do stuff myself with her.. i even just got a "Haynes repair manual" from auto zone today...
its about prefrence again. in a NA motor that dont have it from the factory.. i say use dino oil. my brand of choice for dino oil is regular castrol gtx. now jim i'm sure will chime in on this as will scott but i do know that in the hemi you need a special weight oil for the DOD. i dont know if its the same in the gm though.
as far as bringing it some place.. in my daily it goes to the dealer.. my buick no one touches but me.

dino oil lol nice name lol.. when i had my 07 ss i had the dealer mechanic use syn oil cause the hype was it is better.. keeps cooler higher speeds and cleaner and blah blah.. but cost alot thou.. i just figured from stories in past its better for engine over all in long run otherwise whats point of it?... i dont recall anything special about the weight with my 07 in past and i think from what i read in manual from car 5w30 i think.. just think it be cool to learn and do it myself than bring it to dealer and wait and haveing to set up a time to drop it off or whatnot depending on ur work schedule ect to just do it at home.. figured if i get ramps, or that not good idea? plus same time thou the cost for ramps compared to having dealer do it but again dealerships never open other than when when everyone else is at work anyways so trying to find a way to go and get done is tricky
