Here are a few pics of a water spout I saw this morning while having a cup of coffee. It was very close to shore!!

yes, its basically a tornado.

 

tornado over land = tornado

tornado over water = water spout

 

if it crosses onto land, its reclassified as a tornado.

What causes these is warm water and cold unstable air. They are usualy not caused by a super cell.
