Planning Out Some Winter Mods - Looking for Feedback
Permalink Closed

Hi everybody. As the title says I am trying to lay out some winter mods for the engine on the Monte and I need some feedback. I currently have the GM 350HO crate engine in my car with the steel vortec heads. I still have the stock v-belt setup and I am looking to go to a serpentine setup. I have a nice powermaster 130amp alternator and a edelbrock long water pump but I also have AC with the stock compressor.

I am considering upgrading the AC compressor and I would like to move the AC compressor to the passenger side which would require me to relocate the alternator. Now looking at what is out there is getting me a bit confused. Is there a kit that will allow me to make the desired AC compressor upgrade and relocation with a serpentine upgrade while keeping my existing water pump and alternator pieces? Will I have to do a custom setup? Will I have to replace everything? I know those big serpentine kits are big money and spending over 2k on this upgrade is not really my preferred route.

Thanks for any and all feedback.

Rich,
Look at what march and Billet specialties have, I think they sell something for under 500 w/o comp.

Rich, you can always go with the serp belt system off a mid 9's truck. Get the set up out of a junkyard. You will need to replace the water pump as the serp belt spins it backwards. But it will all bolt on and you can use a compressor that is still close to what you have and it be mounted on the passenger side. You will need to replace the power steering pulley too.

Looks like this

Probably could get all the brackets for less than $50. The compressor for $75 and a pulley for $10. The aluminum brackets can be polished too

I have the setup Dave is talking about on mine. Mine is new however and came as part of the crate motor package. Fits great and doesnt look as bad as I thought it would. Not as purdy as the March, but no where near the cost.
